You’ve all heard of Aunt Sue’s prayer chain, right? Well, there’s definitely strength in numbers – so CDS Global’s Social Business Hub borrowed her clever idea.

The Share Chain is an initiative that brings employees together, across all departments, to request collaborative team support for the sharing of particularly important information through public social channels.

This grassroots effort seeks to maximize our company’s social reach and relevance by calling on coworkers to help spread the word to our individual social graphs and networks.

The Share Chain uses CDS Global’s employee portal’s forum technology, built on Liferay, an opensource collaboration platform. Subscribing employees submit new requests by creating a new thread. The new request is sent to all employee’s email inboxes in real-time.

The Share Chain user submits a request that includes helpful links to where the story has already been published on the social web. Users also craft quick copy-and-paste tweets to help employees that are new to Twitter engage easily.

The Share Chain is just one piece of CDS Global’s integrated social business program. The program’s resources and applications are open across the organization, and is not owned by any one department, but is steered by a group of cross-functional advocates.

Programs hosted on the Social Business Hub (built on Liferay), such as the 12 Week Twitter Challenge and CDS Global’s Social Business Lunch & Learn classes, along with resources such as the Employee Twitter Directory and the CDS Global Social Media Playbook, educate and empower our employees to effectively use social business tools, like the Share Chain, to increase brand reach, awareness and engagement in a concerted, collaborative way!

The 12 Week Twitter Challenge sends weekly lessons by calendar invite in order to:

  1. Teach busy executives and staff new to social media the in’s and out’s of using Twitter.
  2. Form a non-invasive habit of tweeting and checking Twitter, through weekly calendar reminders spanning three months.

CDS Global’s Social Business Hub Lunch & Learn classes are stored on CDS Global’s Liferay-built Social Business Hub. These classes bring employees together in live and WebEx settings to learn, not just the how’s behind using social tools, but the why’s – the impacts of social-mobile-digital on work life and business.

Classes include:

  • Twitter A to Z (series)
  • LinkedIn A to Z (series)
  • Wordpress A to Z (series)
  • Social Media for Live Events and Conferences
  • Top Mobile Apps for Share-worthy Content Creation
  • Social Business in HR
  • Social Business for Sales Executives
  • Social Business for Customer Service
  • Social Business for the C-Suite
  • B2B Blogging Best Practices
These social business classes educate employees at paces that both beginners and digital natives can benefit from, building a more unified, cohesive social savvy work culture.

The Social Business Hub is receiving wide-spread support across departments and teams, including strong executive support. Senior leaders, including the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Workforce Officer and Chief Marketing Officer, have been actively involved to steer, promote and participate in the programs.
The Share Chain now has more than 100 employee subscribers, and is growing. More than 40 employees have joined the Employee Twitter Directory, and are responding to Share Chain requests by tweeting and posting to their personal LinkedIn networks.
In order to expand and sustain the social business program, the Social Business Hub has planned company-wide email campaigns, employee incentives programs, and a crowdsourcing ideation submission process, to be launched with Phase 2 in September 2013. These social business classes educate employees at paces that both beginners and digital natives can benefit from, building a more unified, cohesive social savvy work culture.
